Loving Learning Through Creativity

What was this project about?
Loving Learning Through Creativity was a partnership project involving Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire Cultural Education Partnership, Arts Connect – West Midlands Regional Arts Council England Bridge organisation, Partners in Creative Learning, and YMCA. The project aimed to address absences among students in 11 schools in the Stoke-on-Trent area. It operated in the style of an "artist-in-residence" project, with each school collaborating with an artist to deliver in-school sessions as well as additional extracurricular breakfast and after-school activities.

Where did this project take place?

The project took place in 11 schools located within the Stoke-on-Trent area. Artists worked closely with these schools to engage students who were disengaged, or at risk of disengaging, with arts activities. Sessions were designed to be linked to the curriculum, to reignite students' love of learning and to foster positive associations with school.

What difference did the project make?

Through participation in the programme, students had the opportunity to learn new skills, increase their confidence, explore new forms of self-expression, and develop positive relationships with their peers, teachers, and the artists involved. The programme also included additional trips and activities related to arts and culture, culminating in a showcase to celebrate the students' work.
